The Wanderings of the Brigade of Fire and Steel

To the sea
Wait, a cave in the sea?!

Okay, I had to leave them with one command, don’t die… And from what I heard Hamig almost didn’t follow that. And to top that off, I missed how epicly (so the others say) how he fell. Also took me a moment to notice he didn’t have his God-blessed maul now.

So now, what the hell did Hamig agreed for us to do? I thought he hated the waters. But here we are in this interesting ship… But I have to say, I haven’t felt like I am on a boat compared to other ships. So we are suppose to gather treasures from this cave underwater… I was about to question this until they gave me these cherries that suppose to let me breath underwater. Whatever we find, Lobo and Celeste have first dibs at the loot. Then the Dick… then us… I hope this treasure is worth the trouble though…

What we were heading to… No one told me we were going into a storm in the sea! But I had to say, the imagery of this looks very stunning. I may try to create this in a painting.

I was listening to Rika talking about how she was going to traverse the deep sea with her robe soaked. Creena suggested she go naked. Haha… I had to admit it was not a bad idea. Then my party looked at me, oddly… Then to make things odder, Rika tells me quietly “Not now.” Uh… I think I said too much now… Should focus on painting a bit before we do this mission.

Subteranean Ranger

Nate grimaced as he padded down the tunnel, his eyes barely registering enough ambient heat to ensure he didn’t trip over any debris or bump into any of the occasionally identifiable dead critters that had been plastered into the wall of the hive. Behind him, his fellow Ranger Brenna moved smoothly and confidently, with the gift of her vampiric blood giving her perfect vision. Obviously, as a mere human she needed it to match his level of ability in combat, but he would be lying if he said that being so often underground and semi-blind didn’t bother him to some degree.

He was a plainsman, used to the sun and the wind. His animal companion, currently relaxing in a pine tree outside, was a massive and powerful owl, unhelpfully teasing him with thoughts of riding the wind. Still, as dissatisfied with his current location as he was, he knew that Hammig, Drace, and especially Kitty, the poor overgrown giant bastards that they were, were probably downright miserable. Nate could stretch comfortably, but those those three were hunched over like trolls as they noisily stumbled down the corridor.

First Blacksmithworld's Problems

“I am blacksmith. Weaponsmith. Armorer. I learn in Krondor. I spend war making and repairing weapon and armor for soldier, fighter, adventurer, horse, whatever. everyone. I join adventuring party. I make and fix armor and weapon for party members. And whoever pay that I have time for. Or order to. Whatever. Always make quality equipment for people. So, we have months free time, da? So we smiths, Drace, Doomhammer, Bahatsu, and myself, we make armor for Kitty. Make beter armor for Brenna, Nate, Creena. I make bird armor. You ever make bird armor? I MAKE BIRD ARMOR. Make wolf armor. Brenna have wolf now, big wolf. Anyway. Everyone fucking has new armor, new weapon. So we go hunt bug.

So now we in tunnel underground. Afuckinggain. Haaaaaaaaand I make re-lie-zayshion.

I burn this hive to dead, then I make helmet. Fuck this sheet.

Underdark and Abyssal Forges

A pit opened to South of the town, some people disappeared. They say to us, “Go there, find problem.”. We go in, we make it thirty feet (with the halfling and Kender exploring tiny side passages), we run into some drow and a drider. Turn out, Kurtwood, the Hero? Afraid of spider. Granted, was giant half-spider monster? No excuse to run scream like little girl. Their weapons were poisoned, but the Drider was rendered inert by Brenna and the remainder went down without too much danger to us. Thirty feet in, and we go back and retrieve our so-called hero. Find him unconscious, with obscene symbols drawn to his face with charcoal, and his wounds healed.

Wake him, he gets hypnotized by guard to be brave for spider, and we go back.

Find cubic room. Find perfect 90’ angle hallways. Find room full of drow (we kill them). Find room full of coal oil, drow, drider, and a forge lit by abyssal hell fire. This room is not good for me to fight, 90% of anything I do is fire, and fire in that room leads to everyone die. Would solve drow problem, but is hard to paid when dead. Took much repeat explanation that fire in room kill everything, especially us even me, explain not fire kill, but smoke or no air, or cave in. Finally mostly get through. We decide we leave quiet, report back.

Now we are rearmed with… Ugh, ice weapon. I have prayed for differently spells, no fire. We will go back, and I will claim Abyssal Forge for Kossuth, and we shall make great wonders upon it. Including demon binding chains for Dick. Hmm… If clear out drow problem, is still portal to underdark in area. Question is can close? If can close, wonder if portal can make to DragonForge. We could be greatest Weapon and Amorsmiths world ever seen, forging with dragon fire and hell fire, all for glory of Kossuth.

After drink, we go. Blessing of Fire upon us, and may Kossuth forgive my friends for their blasphemous weapons. At least is not water weapon though… Ice is forgivable. Possibly. In this particular instance where fire is not best plan.

Cyka, I can’t even use shield. Bah, I am going to punch drow face so hard while singing and their ancestors feel punch. Zdes nyet, must take forge.

Held the line

Ow… Just ow… Whatever those damn… dragon beasts things were… they hurt.. I couldn’t get my damn helm off, then one of those bigger ones tried to crush me alive… I rather not think about if Kitty wasn’t able to lift me up. But we prevailed. Those beasts may have damaged my armor, but this is nothing compared to them reaching the town. I am glad that Hamig and the “dick” has been able to repair it though. I need lots of ales after this is over…

Ugh… so much darkness around, I am tired of this “bitch queen” I heard some people say about this evil goddess… She has overstayed her welcome.

Hm… those paws of the dragon beast would make some interesting weapons to try out… I will need Osrika’s help to harvest them properly. I am sure she would do that… even for the sake of her morbid science. I just want them as trophies.

Nate's First Adventure Post

…fucking half elf. KURT, YOU OWE ME A FUCKING HORSE.

(Place holder, unless I forget about it).

Times have become not good. We arrived in this town expecting good times, good drink, good food, good relaxation (and payment for job well done). instead, ve get job to retrieve caravan what has been attacked. Tankfully, Nate located eet, and ve vere able to peek direcshun and go tere. On way, ve find dead people, trussed up as warning. I pray over them, give them blessings of Kossuth, and leave them for the ferryman to return to Olympia.

Further on, we find camp site, and nearly-dead-youth. We heal him, and learn these were done by the desert people. He returns to Olympia to let Mugshot know of what happened. Speaking of Mugshot, the ferryman seemed disturbed that he would likely be the one to break the news of the dead to the Half-Orc. That seems an odd concern to me, but we have bigger issues.

Nate and Brenna find tracks and wagon trails into the forest to the Ruins Nate located from town, where we go. We meet a man in the woods who casts wall of wind between us and the ruins.

Fucking coward.

Our fearless and shiny leader attempted to push through the wall, unsuccessfully, so I turn to Kurtwood, our heavy hitter, and grant him immunity to the wind wall. He pushes through, the rest of us begin to go around but are accosted partly by a troll, and partly by a fireball sent by the shitty mage.

Fireball? On me? Pah! He not knowing who he deal with. Tactical error. We disable troll, Osrika successfully drains some of its blood, I put out forest fire, and burn the life out of the troll for good. Meanwhile, Kurt is getting progressively more arrow filled as he causes chaos and rains destruction upon the majority of the enemy force. Once the windwall goes down, the rest of us charge for mop up, and the elf kills Nate’s pony.

Nate is hard on his mounts.

We burn the troll, recover weapons and gear, and take stock of our situation. We have found one burnt out wagon with nothing on it, we have located the ruins, and one or two of our party are severely wounded.

We have job, we finish job, so we move into the ruins.

Kreena, Kurt, and Ian take point, exploring. Based on what I was able to get out of them afterwords, Kreena fell from a wall and into a house (they have no roofs, but are otherwise very well preserved.), and landed on some clay pots apparently full of the plague. Kurt and Ian managed to get her out without getting themselves sick as well, and I managed to pray for Cure Disease and cure the worst of the plague.

Ian took her back to our horses (the safest place for her), when Kurt decides is good idea to smack probably magical petrified wood with heavily magical artifact weapon.

He has one fewer assbone now, and he has alerted basically entire town to our presence. Spasee, cyka.

We found the badguys, murdered them violently, made it to the caravan where we found the Dwarf with the boom-sticks, rescued him, and as we were debating what to do about the plague, an earthquake struck. It quickly decided for us, and we split up across the two wagons and quickly made our exit.

And that is where things get worse.

As it stands, Nate is badly wounded, Kurt is badly wounded and plague ridden, Brenna is badly wounded and plague ridden, and by the time we make it back to the river, it is swollen and violent. We realise we can’t go further, and hole up as best we can as it rains and hails. I begin praying for more cure disease, and get something I have never felt before.

Kosuth wasn’t answering.

I still got my spells, not being completely abandoned, but they were weaker than usual and I made realisation that we were probably as safe as we could be, considering earthquakes, hail, and night coming suddenly and completely with no moon.

I tell my companions, “I have good news, and bad news. Good news, we are unlikely to catch attention of any evil god for time being. Bad news, or good god, as I believe they are fighting right now.”

Nate got Kurt’s help to send a letter to Olympia, letting them know what we had found in the ruins, and his bird returned two days later, obviously worse for wear with simple message: “Help is on the way.”

Turns out, is Lobo himself with undead guardians, who shows up, and magics us back to Olympia faster. We get brief, very undetailed explanation of events, and then we arrive. Peaceful town is trashed. Farmland is ruined, New town is trashed, and old town is not great. A fucking massive silver dragon is guarding the orphanage, and the number of wounded and worse is staggering.

The regiment has given Drace and myself a corner of their corral where we have set up our portable forge, and I am back to fixing armor and weapons exactly as I did during my time with the Dunbarian army during the war with my homeland. I am glad that I did not retire after the war, or I might find myself out of shape when this call came. Instead, the life of an adventurer has made me stronger, better, and ready to serve my adopted country once more, even if it is just a little part of it.

Even so, I do not relish going back to war.

As part of agreement, Reggie, the head of the Regiment, has thrown me into weapons training. “A man should be able to wield what he makes.” He says, in his dream the god Tempus stood before him, while another god tended a campfire, and tells him, “Though the blacksmith is not a follower of mine, I want you to teach him the martial ways.” Before turning to the other god and say, “There, you owe me two FULL kegs of your best beer.”

To which Kosuth (for who else could it be?), responded simply with, “No problem.”

If you thought working forge was hard, try working forge after getting ass handed to you by six Imperial regiment soldiers.

Kreena is doing her part to keep up morale, though some of the gaurdsman and women (and their obvious friends about town) seem to not need it.

Lastly, we have heard from DragonForge Keep. Apparently the worst of this chaos has left them out of it, partly due to their location near the gemdust cave, partly due to their proximity to Lord Greggor’s Cave. They will continue to do as they’ve done.

Anyway, is as much as I can remember. As I pray before the Eternal Flames of Kossuth, recalling the chaos, death, and destruction that has been wrought in the last few days, I realize I live in interesting times.

More fuel for Fires.

The sky is raining fire
ok, who pissed off the gods?

I’m back in Olympia and thanks to Lobo, the the Temple of Mishelkal alive and almost fully recovered from the plague. There is an ancient silver dragon guarding the local orphanage, I pity anything fool enough to threaten those children. Creena is back in high spirits and entertaining the children, and generally good for moral. This town’s response to danger is impressive, though I would expect nothing else from Dar’s blood. Seriously, fire rains from the sky, and hail and troll armies, this town rises to meet the challenge. It’s very crowded as many had travelled in for the now postponed games. I hear things are rough in the Duchy, and I’m relieved to hear the tribes have stopped raiding joined you defending it. I heard part of our walls fell, and sincerely hope all are ok. I wish I could be there to help defend. In the meantime, I will aid the Olympians however I can. I heard Ciara appeared, glad to know our sister yet lives.
Looking forward to better times,

Our work is never done...
Can't we relax for a moment?

Ah… We made it to Olympia. I am glad we escorted her safely. Glad to have made it to the games. Always wanted to see how the little boxing champ takes down the lead contender 2 years in a row. Also excited to take part in the sword fighting. I hope to dominate that field. I better practice my swordplay whenever I can.

Ah… but our work is never done. We had to deal with lost delivery that needed to brought back. I wasn’t sure if it was safe, but the Regiment told me that the goods were safe to be brought over and the person asking to be trusted. When we rode over, we saved a man who seemed out of place… But very wounded… Then as we started to move out, trolls attacked out of no where. We took them out, and started running with the goods. As we moved to our destination, Oblivion showed up and just shredded that guy we saved… I wonder what he did to piss him off… but.. I don’t think I want to know…

Side note, I need to get to the weapon shop to acquire more weapons to try out. Maybe an axe, a halberd, and some heavy gauntlets for beating foes, maybe.

Letters Home

Rod, Myrna and Uncle Yarp,

I am still alive, and hope you are too. The Fire and Steel Brigade just reached Olympia. Some in my party have decided to enter the games, including the Kender, so we should be here for a little while. It will be a nice distraction from whatever is coming.
There are some nasty rumors of trouble coming, and if rumors are true, Ciaranseer is in the crosshairs. Hope that damned dwarf selling the teasets was captured, his wares seem to have sickened many. It appears Olympia has avoided the worst of the sicknesses, their temple of Mishelkal is large, it rivals High Priest Darnic’s temple, but I would guess you knew that already. They say the high priestess of the town wears a veil, I have yet to cross her path. While the town seems to have missed the worst of the plague, the woods surrounding it do seem to have a troll problem, rather large, rather stronger than we have fought before trolls.
Uncle Yarp, Blargh seems content serving Tempest in the Olympian temple, it is nice, but not home. I am drilling daily with both the militia and Dar’s regiment, and the local Ranger has given me his acceptance to hone my tracking skills in the woods. Oddly enough, the ranger juggles professionally in town, and has a tiger. I got to spare with the Mishelkal priestesses body guard, he is a stealthy and fast fighter, I think he is learning sword.
The work ethic of the children in this town is incredible, the pages guild are as underfoot as Ciara’s dogs, and I suspect equally as watchful, and protective of those they care about. Creena, our kender friend is delighted to have found so many willing playmates – this town may never be the same.
Hopefully, whatever evil is afoot will soon be foiled, but as always prepared to serve as needed in the defenses. Be on your guard!

Love always,
